Low scoring affair on the menu at Molineux
Bruno Lage building from defensive foundations
Wolves still have maintained their top half status, largely thanks to a narrow 1-0 win away at Brighton in midweek. A rare goal for Romain Saiss on the brink of half-time ensure Bruno Lage's side came away with all three points from the south coast. They're averaging less than one goal per game this season and scoring just 13 goals in their 17 Premier League matches is the second worst return in the league. Only bettering bottom side Norwich for goals scored, their defensive resilience has been the key to their recent upturn in form. They now have six clean sheets in the league and their only two losses in their last six games have been 1-0 defeats to Man City and Liverpool. In both of these games, Wolves were very unlucky to not come away with at least a point. Particularly on Saturday away at Man City, where they went down to 10-men due to one of the most bizarre red cards given in recent history. Striker Raul Jimenez got a yellow card for a standard foul, but proceeded to then block the resulting free kick from just a yard away, naturally being given a second yellow card. Despite this, a soft penalty to the hosts was all that separated the two sides. Max Kilman nearly salvaged a point for Wolves to cancel out Raheem Sterling's penalty, but Ederson's smart save denied the English centre back from just six yards out. Jimenez will likely lead the line once more after returning from his suspension which will give Bruno Lage confidence that he can give Wolves their eighth win in 15 games. Injuries against Brighton to both Rayan Ait-Nouri and Hwang Hee-chan mean they won't be available for selection, forcing Lage into making changes in these positions. But by comparison to Chelsea, Wolves' injury concerns won't be nearly as impactful to their squad.
Lack of attack for Tuchel's wounded blues
Romelu Lukaku, Timo Werner and Callum Hudson-Odoi will miss all miss this game due to COVID. Kai Havertz also missed Chelsea's 1-1 draw with Everton on Thursday due to illness, meaning the Blues will be very shorthanded in attack. This will likely leave Christian Pulisic to lead the line with Hakim Ziyech and Mason Mount sat in behind. Their draw against an Everton side hit even more by coronavirus on Thursday is very worrying for Thomas Tuchel. Their lack of clinical edge was evident, as they carved out several good opportunities but lacked the finishing touch to put away a weakened Everton side. Despite also going 1-0 up thanks to a smart Mount finish past an inspired Jordan Pickford in the second half, Jarrad Branthwaite put home an equaliser just five minutes later. This was a worrying indication for Chelsea that they could be cast adrift in the title race that's quickly becoming a two-horse race between Man City and Liverpool. Anything other than a win against Wolves could leave Chelsea finding themselves battling to even hold onto third place. With this lack of attacking availability come Sunday being an ongoing issue, against a well worked Wolves side, this game looks destine to have a lack of goals. Either side has a good chance of grabbing a narrow 1-0 win, but a 0-0 result could well be a likely outcome from thisbgame with both sides low on goals from recent matches.
Neither side have been inspired going forwards due to either style of play or injury concerns. Nevertheless, this game seems destined to be a low scoring affair at Molineux. That's why I'm going with under 2.5 goals with bet365.
