Wolves to compound Brighton's misery
Brighton continue to slide towards the bottom three as Wolves enjoy another solid season. Who will come out on top this weekend? Have a read of our preview here:
World champions Wolves
Wolves were once hailed champions of the world back in their heyday, but years spent toiling in the second tier saw their reputation shrink.
They have now, thanks to the charismatic management of Nuno Espirito Santo, returned to the pinnacle of the sport and it’s great to see. Yes, they have spent a lot of money in order to achieve this success but they have also played excellent football, recruited the right players and stuck with a manager who deserves a lot more credit and attention than he currently gets.
Can they finish in the Champions League places? That remains to be seen, but they have a great opportunity to push Chelsea and the other big-hitters all the way.
There is a lot to like about this Wolves side and it just shows what sensible investment can bring. Their fans are loving it right now, and they feel like champions again.
Brighton all at sea
When Brighton sacked Chris Hughton, it was met with mix reactions from fans and pundits. The popular manager had done so well to get the Seagulls promoted but had struggled to establish them in the Premier League.
They board cited wanting a different style as the reason behind the decision and bringing in Graham Potter certainly suggested they were going to try and be more expansive.
The problem with that is you can sometimes lose a certain pragmatism needed to survive in the ruthless world of English top-flight football and the defeat last weekend to rivals Crystal Palace has left Brighton in big trouble.
Brighton remain the only side in the Premier League yet to win a game in 2020, last bagging three points against Bournemouth in late December.
This has seen them slide to within a single point of the relegation places. They will be consoled by the company they keep. Bournemouth, Aston Villa, Watford and West Ham are all on 27 points, one behind the Seagulls, so there is plenty still to play for.
They travel to Wolves in hope more than expectation, but can Mr Potter wizard his way out of trouble…we shall see.
