Will Watford carry on surprising?
Watford maintained their 100% start by coming from behind to beat Tottenham last time out. Next, they welcome a Man. United side currently blowing hot and cold under Jose Mourinho. Whichever way this one pans out, I reckon we’re set to see some goals.
Watford
The Hornets continue to bust accumulators up and down the country with their remarkable start; I personally thought their run would come to an end at home to Spurs but they claimed perhaps their most impressive victory yet from a goal behind.
Much of the praise has gone the way of Pereira so far but it goes to show just how good a team Watford are right now when others can step up to the plate also. This time, it was the turn of Holebas and Deeney who contributed so brilliantly, the latter scoring the important leveller to restore parity initially.
They’ve scored at least two in each match so far
It remains to be seen how long this run goes on for - some bookies have moved to slash the odds on Watford winning the title in light of Leicester’s extraordinary achievement in 2016. But, sorry Watford fans, as good as you start has been, I cannot see your side emulating that of Claudio Ranieri’s.
However, the belief instilled within the squad and the ability of the team to share the goalscoring responsibilities - they’ve scored at least two in each match so far – should see Man. United certainly in for a tough afternoon at Vicarage Road.
Man. United
Following a laughable start to the season for the club the size of Manchester United, the man at the heart of it all, Jose Mourinho, earnt himself some much needed breathing space with a comfortable victory away at Burnley.
Yet, I feel this result only served in papering over the cracks. An array of problems still linger in the background for the Portuguese who doesn’t seem to be able to settle on a regular backline and is struggling to get the best out of Alexis Sanchez.
Changes set to be made to the defence yet again
You also sense the rift between Mourinho and those at boardroom level within Old Trafford is temporarily on hold whilst everybody waits with bated breath for what happens next in the soap opera that is currently, Mourinho against the world.
I half agree with the pre-match odds which have United as quite strong favourites despite their inauspicious start. But with changes set to be made to the defence yet again as a result of Luke Shaw’s unfortunate landing on Wednesday night, I can’t see them keeping a clean sheet against such a free-scoring opponent.
Match Tip
As I’ve mentioned, I think the odds weigh too much in favour of the visitors given the colossal form shown by the hosts. But I daren’t back Watford – we all know their run will end at some point and it may well be here.
I suspect an entertaining affair with chances at both ends and seen as I cannot pick an outright winner, I think there’s enough to suggest that both will get on the scoresheet.
I’ll therefore be putting money the way of both teams to score which is currently at odds of 5/6 (1.85) with Betfair.
