Spurs to add to West Ham's woes in London derby
It’s a London derby on Tuesday night as Spurs take on West Ham. Both sides have contrasting ambitions but can either side meet them? Have a read of our preview here:
Spurs still searching for that elusive win
Spurs looked excellent against Manchester United in the first 45-minutes last Friday. They frustrated Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side and looked dangerous on the break.
Their Dutch sensation Steven Bergwijn, who became only the second player to score in his first three home appearances for Spurs, netted with an impressive strike, even though the defending wasn’t great but a second-half penalty leaves Jose Mourinho’s side still looking for a three-point haul.
Tottenham are now winless in seven games in all competitions, their worst winless run since November 2016.
Mourinho has not done well against his old clubs but will be hoping to have Dele Alli and Lucas Moura back for Tuesday when the host the Hammers. The former Man United and Chelsea boss admitted their absence had been felt against the Red Devils on Friday.
“I have to admit for the last 15 minutes I would love to have had Lucas Moura here, Dele Alli here. The last 15 minutes were difficult for us,” he told the BBC following the 1-1 draw with United.
“Lucas and Dele are players we need and we could feel that today. when you look to their bench and then to ours the difference in attacking options. Hopefully, they will be back for West Ham because in this moment it is very, very important to change players.”
Spurs came out of the blocks quickly and that is to be expected again versus the struggle Hammers. If Tottenham can get an early goal, it could well be a long night for David Moyes and co.
Worrying times for West Ham
Prior to the lockdown, West Ham were on a dreadful run of form. They’d lost three of the last four and eight of their previous 12 games picking up just eight points from a possible 36.
David Moyes hopes the restart will give them fresh impetus and a fresh opportunity with the fitness of Jack Wilshere very much the topic of discussion. If the former Arsenal man can stay healthy, then the Hammers have a good opportunity but defensively things must be better.
Their Premier League survival hopes hinge on them finding a patch of form to lift them away from the drop, but this is a side with problems right across the board and fan unrest will not go unless there is a discernible change of direction from the board. It could be a while coming…
