Swans meet Bees in an entertaining midweek battle
A slightly misfiring Swansea City side welcome up and coming Brentford to the Liberty Stadium, the latter have turned a corner of some early season poor form to come into this one with a legitimate chance of getting a result despite their league position. Steve Cooper’s huge bounce at the start of the campaign that saw the Swans top the table for some weeks has slowed down somewhat seeing them fall away from the summit recently. However, their raw talent is still clear for all to see and they will be narrow favourites to take all three points and get their promotion push back on track on Tuesday evening.
Recent form
A positive head-to-head record should give confidence to the 2013 League Cupwinners who have only won once in their last seven matches in all competitions. Bees boss Thomas Frank has lost all three of his meetings with Swansea as a manager, conceding three or more on each of those occasions, though he will be locking horns with Cooper for the first time in both of their respective careers in this encounter.
The Londoners have only netted one first half goal on the road this season so far and could be in for an onslaught at the back with Swans’ top scorer Borja Baston having bagged four of his last five strikes in front of the home crowd. Matt Grimes skippers the third-placed hosts in bidding for his side to win their eighth consecutive meeting with Brentford, a statistic many of the travelling fans will choose to ignore.
Borja Baston Vs Ollie Watkins
Two of the league’s finest frontmen will battle for the spotlight in this game, with Watkinsequating for 66.67% of the Bees’ goals in 2019/20. The former Exeter Cityman has converted inside to a striker since the start of the season following the departure of Neal Maupay to Brighton & Hove Albionlate on in the summer transfer window. The 23-year-old is joint league top scorer with eight goals and has four in as many games making him the more in form marksman, however this is Baston’s stomping ground and the ex-Atletico Madrid attacker should rise to the challenge.
With both team’s recovering quickly from Saturday’s fixtures and the international break this will be an entertaining midweek match. Brentford can be lethal on the counter and whoever scores the first goal will go on to win the game.
