In form Swans to heap pressure on Warburton
Steve Cooper’s Swans make the trip to the capital to take on Queens Park Rangers this Boxing Day. Swansea have their sights firmly on promotion this term following playoff semi final defeat to Brentford in 2019/20. They recovered from a disappointing loss to Wayne Rooney’s Derby County with an impressively routine 2-0 victory over Valerien Ismael’s Barnsley. Jamal Lowe has had his shooting boots on in recent weeks and is starting to look the part as a higher tier forward in the second tier. The visitors are favourites but well above evens and if QPR’s blunt performances of late are to go by, the Swans present value.
Process
Swansea’s defensive contingent is the best facet of the pitch on show in this matchup, and they will have the chance to prove their worth with QPR boasting one of the better creative forces in the lower regions of the Championship. In Ilias Chair and Bright Osayi-Samuel Rangers have assets that belong in the upper echelons of the division, somewhere around third place where Swansea lie. QPR have scored just 19 goals so far from chances equating to 25 expected goals, with Lyndon Dykes struggling for form in open play and a slow starting supporting cast including Macauley Bonne who reached double figures in the league last season for relegated Charlton Athletic.
Cooper’s men have been a little fortunate to be sporting the best defensive record in the league, only conceding 12 times from 18.5 expected goals. The goalkeeping skills of Freddie Woodman could be a good contributor to that overperformance, post shot expected goals would reveal more.
- QPR have scored in seven of 10, but just two of their last five.
- QPR have conceded in nine of 10.
- QPR have seen both teams score in seven of 10.
- QPR have seen over 2.5 goals in four of 10, but not in their last five.
- Swans have scored in seven of 10.
- Swans have conceded in four of 10, but just one of five.
- Swans have seen both teams score in two of 10.
- Swans have seen over 2.5 goals in one of 10 and none of their last five.
As the pressure heaps on Mark Warburton, Swansea possess the temperament, form and quality to make this a very uncomfortable afternoon for the Londoners.
