Expect a tight game at Fortress Old Trafford
For the first time, probably, ever Liverpool fans will be cheering on Manchester United in the derby on Wednesday as they hope Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side can do them a favour.
We love you really
This game has the strangest of feels to it. It is a derby that has a lot riding on it for both clubs. Manchester United are still hoping they can make the top four while City are trying to defend their title with Liverpool pushing them every step of the way.
The Reds have not won the top flight since 1990 and have never won the Premier League. Fans of the Merseyside club will be cheering on a team they usually love to hate.
With this being Manchester City’s last match-up against a ‘big six’ side it could be Liverpool’s last hope of their title rivals dropping points but United fans will be in two minds about who they want to win the league.
It is fair to say neither Liverpool nor Manchester City are very popular with United fans with some perhaps even hoping they lose to Pep Guardiola’s side, though that may be pushing it.
Old Trafford still holds firm
Despite Manchester United’s poor season, by their standards at least, Old Trafford still acts like a fortress. United have lost just once at home all season and that was back in August.
City will have to work extremely hard and also be patient if they are to take the points they need in this one. United will not make it easy for Guardiola and his players. The 4-0 defeat at Everton could act as a bit of a motivation given how poor the Red Devils were and they certainly need a reaction in the derby.
The numbers
No surprises here. Man City absolutely dominate the tangible stats in the Premier League especially when you compare them to their city rivals.
The Citizens have created 276 chances in the top flight this season compared to United’s 199. They have made 22,330 accurate passes of which 456 have been ‘key passes’ (those to a teammate in a goal scoring position of that cut off three or more players in the attacking phase) compared to United’s 14,939 and 277.
Man United - Man City Betting tip
With so much riding on this game and United looking to tighten up after the dreadful showing at Goodison Park, you can expect a cagey affair. City are the favourites but Solskjaer’s side will make things difficult so backing there to be under 2.5 goals at odds of 13/8 should definitely be on your radar.
