Liverpool to leave Chelsea in the Mud
A clash between the two biggest underperformers in the 2022/2023 Premier League season takes place on Saturday at Anfield. Liverpool and Chelsea sit ninth and 10th respectively, and both sides would've hoped and expected to be in the hunt for a UEFA Champions League spot at the very least. The hosts edged past a very tame Wolverhampton Wanderers outfit in their FA Cup third round replay during the week and Graham Potter's strugglers did a similar job in the league to Crystal Palace last time out, but both are seriously off-colour at the moment. Rob them blind
Jürgen Klopp can at least welcome back Andrew Robertson to the starting lineup, though he still has a number of big names remaining on the treatment table, too. Virgil van Dijk's absence means the partnership of Ibrahima Konaté and Joël Matip will continue to hold the fort. The real issues are in midfield, however, with fans desperate to see at least one new face come in before the end of the January transfer window to help shore up a porous unit. Cody Gakpo is in line for his home league debut on the left of the front three.
Mud bath
New owner Todd Boehly continues to sanction signing after signing in the attacking area, and the latest expensive addition is Mykhailo Mudryk. The Ukrainian forward normally operates from the left but can also be behind the main striker. He offers Graham Potter something different in the final third, being adept on the dribble with both feet. His arrival is timely in part because of a long list of absentees, which João Félix's suspension simply adds to. Young midfielder Lewis Hall is expected to be named at left-back once more, though Ben Chilwell is nearing fitness at long last.
