Leicester showing their top six credentials
Leicester City are starting to prove to people that they are the real deal this season. Victory against Spurs has further enhanced those credentials, but can they find a way past a resilient Newcastle? Have a read of our preview here:
Foxes showing their class
We all knew Leicester were one of the better sides in this season’s Premier League, but I don’t think even the most ardent Foxes fan would have seen them contending for a Champions League spot in the early running. The performance against Tottenham last weekend was a brilliant highlight of how Brenden Rodgers wants his side to play and James Maddison netting his first goal of the season was a welcome bonus.
The King Power Stadium was a fortress in their title-winning campaign and they are starting to make it that way again.
Leicester have suffered just one defeat in their last nine Premier League home games (W6 D2) which is hugely encouraging for all concerned. They have also looked very good on the road and with their only defeat away from home coming against Manchester United at Old Trafford, there is much to be pleased about.
They haven’t been scoring as many as they would have liked with just eight in the first six rounds, but the defence has made up for what the attack has lacked thus far.
Leicester have conceded just five times this season, only Liverpool can better that defensive record.
They are keeping pace with the likes of Manchester City, who face Everton on Saturday, making this Foxes side one to keep an eye on in 2019/20 and Newcastle will have a tough examination in Leicestershire.
What did you expect?
Newcastle are exactly where everyone thought they’d be. Struggling near the foot of the Premier League table with only one win in their opening six matches. Steve Bruce is well aware of his sides scoring troubles and the 0-0 draw against Brighton last weekend was probably more a point gained based on the performance.
After the game, Bruce admitted as much while acknowledging his sides scoring weakness.
"The Achilles heel is that we have to take big chances when we get them,” he said.
"We couldn't wait to get them in at half-time. We didn't deal with Brighton who kept the ball very well and they made it a difficult evening for us. We got away with one."
If the Magpies produce another performance like that then it is very unlikely they will get away with another one at the King Power Stadium.
Leicester v Newcastle betting tip
With recent results in mind, the Foxes are heavy favourites to win against the Magpies but don’t write off Steve Bruce’s side. Newcastle have scored in four of their six matches so far while Leicester have hit the net at the same ratio. Therefore, backing this one to finish with over 2.5 goals at odds of 21/20 is worth a punt here.
