Fulham to deepen Southampton's relegation fears
Fulham took full advantage of nine-men Crystal Palace on Boxing Day, riding out 3-0 winners. On Saturday afternoon, they'll face a rock bottom Southampton side in desperate need of a boost under new boss Nathan Jones at Craven Cottage, with no clear sign where that's going to come from. Though obviously assisted in no small part by the Eagles' ill discipline, Marco Silva's charges were already ahead and in the ascendancy when the dismissals occurred. Bobby De Cordova-Reid worked tirelessly to finish off the opening goal crafted by the prolific Aleksandar Mitrović, who went on to score the third and final one himself. Kenny Tete continues to excel down the right and might have Harry Wilson ahead of him if Cordova-Reid is given a breather. Dan James, on loan from Leeds United, could be given a start on the opposite flank as they'll doubtlessly take the game to their opponents.
Gavin a laugh
Jones must arrest the slide that started well before his appointment and subsequent break for the World Cup soon if he is to attract reinforcements for the dogfight to come in the second half of the season. The Saints also have to start scoring more, averaging less than a goal per game in the top tier this term. Che Adams remains top with just four, and youngster Sékou Mara might be given the chance to show what he can do alongside the Scottish forward. Gavin Bazunu must also quickly shake off the errors that gave Brighton & Hove Albion at least two of the three goals last time out.
Betting tip
bet365 have odds of 3.25 for Fulham to lead at half-time and see that through to the full-time whistle.
