Everton v Spurs: Expect a cagey affair
Everton host Tottenham on Sunday with the Toffees in a sticky old mess. With pressure mounting on Marco Silva, will this game be the end of the Portuguese manager’s time at Goodison Park? Have a read of our preview here:
The form says it all
Everton fans were expecting something rather different this season under the guidance of Portuguese manager Marco Silva. The former Hull and Watford boss has served up a rather paltry 10 points from the opening 10 games of the Premier League campaign.
The late capitulation at Brighton last weekend has left some questioning the character of this squad and that is understandable given the start they have made.
Everton have failed to win any of the 24 Premier League games in which they've fallen behind under Marco Silva.
That is a worrying statistic and leaves a number of questions hanging in the air about Silva’s future on Merseyside. He has to be bold against Spurs or this may signal the end of his tenure in a role he was desperate to land.
There is one light still flickering at the end of the tunnel and that is the form of Dominic Calvert-Lewin who has netted five goals in the last five games for the Toffees in all competitions. He will be an important player if they are to climb the table, away from their current predicament.
Spurs on the slide
Tottenham’s defeat at Liverpool is, in itself, not hugely damning but Spurs have really struggled this season and on the road is where their troubles are most apparent.
Tottenham are without a win in their last 11 Premier League away games (D2 L9), and last endured a longer run between May 2000-January 2001 under George Graham (14 games).
There is real concern that they have taken a step backwards this season and since their opening day victory, they have only won twice in nine games. The goals are not free-flowing either with just 16 to their name so far, half the number Manchester City have scored.
Harry Kane is now so important to Spurs that you feel he has to perform in order for them to get a result. He has notched an incredible 131 goals and 19 assists in the Premier League for Tottenham in just 191 appearances – a remarkable ratio.
Everton vs Tottenham betting tip
It is likely to be a fairly cagey game on Sunday with neither side wanting to give much ground to the other. With that in mind, backing this one to finish with under 2.5 goals at odds of 21/20 is our pick here.
