Bees to continue promotion push past Swans
The battle at the right end of the Championship is really hotting up over the festive period with Steve Cooper’s Swansea City making the trip to the capital to play a Brentford who are above them in and inside the playoff places on goal difference. 13 goals separates these two, both unbeaten in their last three and particularly the hosts are shaping up to cement their place in the top six, in their farewell season at Griffin Park they have won four on the trot with their menacing attacking trio firing on all cylinders. The Swans have steadied the ship lately to push back up to seventh after going on a six-game winless ended by a late rally in a 3-1 victory at struggling Middlesbrough.
Recent form
The unfancied Swans have opened the scoring in five of their last six on the road and are unbeaten in doing so this season, winning four and drawing three. However, they will need to prepare for the wrath of precocious winger Bryan Mbeumo on Thursday who has netted the first goal in Thomas Frank’s men’s last three home matches inside the first half an hour. It is usually an entertaining affair with over 2.5 goals crossing the line in every head-to-head this decade.
Andre Ayew
Moving into the declining age of his career, Ayew still has the quality to turn a game on its head at any given moment, and his presence means you cannot write off the Swans. The Ghana international has scored four in his last three games and will continue to assert his authority as a Premier League standard player strutting his stuff in the second tier. In form is an understatement, he has totaled 12 goal involvements under Cooper this term and will be Swansea’s main creative threat constantly at the excellent Bees backline.
Bryan Mbeumo
An inspired summer signing plucked from the French second tier for just under £6million, has proved his worth and demonstrated outstanding potential already, pipping Ayew with 13 goal involvements in 21 appearances, eight goals and five assists. Really growing into English football inclining with Brentford’s surge up the table following a slow start, the 20-year-old’s should eclipse his statistic of 10 Ligue 2 goals last season soon and has added so much to the Brentford attack after Neal Maupay’s departure and has outperformed the products from the left flank in tricky winger Said Benrahma.
