Wolves to make light work of Crusaders
No you haven’t been transported back in time to the 1950s, Wolves are actually playing in Europe once more. Can Nuno continue to produce the black and gold magic? Have a read of our preview as they face Crusaders here:
Wolves back on the European trail
Wolves were once proclaimed ‘the Champions of the World’ when they beat a Honved side full of international class in the 1950s. Stan Cullis was the manager who led them to such glories but there does appear to be an aura surrounding Nuno Espirito Santo and the way he has guided Wolves to success over the last couple of years.
The Portuguese coach, along with a number of expensive, high profile compatriots, have helped the Black Country club return, not only to the elite level of English football but also get back into Europe.
They face Crusaders of Northern Ireland to start their Europa League campaign and it is a competition they should be looking to take very seriously. It is unlikely that they will be able to trouble the top four in the Premier League this season but why can’t they win what was once the Uefa Cup?
It would be a massive achievement and one that seemed so unrealistic a few short years ago. Even neutral onlookers
Transfer business so far…
Wolves have been pretty quiet this summer but, in truth, have not really had the need to go for a massive upgrade. Last season they were excellent, and many would not have believed it was their first campaign back in the top flight after such a long absence.
The management team and recruitment guys know what they want and bringing in Raul Jimenez for a club-record £30m is a sign of their continued ambitions and newfound riches. Leander Dendoncker has also become a permanent addition for a fee of £12m which is a sensible addition given his efforts in 2018-19.
There will probably be a couple of new additions before the season kicks-off but Wolves are in great shape heading into their first European campaign in 39 years.
Wolves v Crusaders betting tip
Wolves should easily dominate proceedings in this one but should not take anything for granted. Last season’s FA Cup tie against League One Shrewsbury will have taught them a thing or two which will give them an edge here. That is why backing Wolves to win by four or more goals at odds of 4/7 is worth a punt in this one.
