Boost to capitalise on in the capital

West Ham United welcome Brighton and Hove Albion on Sunday afternoon aiming to get their season up and running under David Moyes.

The Hammers have performed tremendously well to qualify for Europe in each of the last two seasons, leading the way for club’s like Brighton and others in mid table positions, showing what can be achieved.

The Seagulls have begun the season very promisingly, being much the better team in a goalless draw against Newcastle United at the weekend, following their victory over Manchester United on matchday one.

Graham Potter’s men have once again been fairly reserved in the transfer market, but with players improving year on year they look well-set to build on last term’s ninth placed finish.

Background

The Hammers were slightly unfortunate to come away with nothing at the City Ground in their last match, after being outclassed by Manchester City in their first league outing.

West Ham have not yet scored in the league, despite creating chances equating to 3.2 expected goals (xG), and both teams could be a sensible punt in this game given the way Brighton will come and play on the front foot.

Defensively, there may have been some concerns for Moyes, but having played City in their first two fixtures it is important not to read too much into their underlying numbers at this early stage.

Gianluca Scamacca was a very exciting pick-up, and the Italian should be able to displace Michail Antonio sooner rather than later, unless the competition for places can inspire the versatile Jamaican.

Danny Welbeck will likely continue leading the line for the visitors, Potter has been able to get a lot more out of players who have struggled elsewhere in recent years, and though he has not got amongst the goals yet, the experienced forward is a good foil for Brighton’s other attacking players.

Moises Caicedo has stepped into the void left behind by Yves Bissouma very well, while Pascal Gross remains a very reliable performer for the South Coast club.

Newcastle United are expected to be competing for bthis season, and Brighton look a far better side than them last time out, it is a surprise to not see them command as much respect on their travels on Sunday.

Betway have boosted their price on Brighton (+0.5) on the Asian Handicap, to a level that is too good to refuse.

The Seagulls have avoided defeat on their last two league trips to the London Stadium and come into the fixture in fine form.

West Ham United - Brighton and Hove Albion Betting Tip
