Survival Saturday for Werder, Koln and Bielefeld
It is judgement day in the Bundesliga this Saturday, all three of Koln, Werder Bremen and Arminia Bielefeld have a shot at escaping the bottom three, captivating viewing is on the cards. Schalke are long gone at the foot of the table with Koln 17th on 30 points, with a favourable final day outing, Werder occupy the relegation playoff spot, to which they survived from last term, on 31 points and Bielefeld are 15th on 32. Koln host Schalke and therefore have a great chance of reaching 33 points while Bielefeld travel to Stuttgart in their bid to maintain their topflight status. Werder have the tricky task of Borussia Monchengladbach who have the added motivation of this being their final game under Marco Rose before he leaves for Borussia Dortmund.
Process
It has been a frustrating season for Gladbach, they trended as a top four chasing side for the majority of the campaign but with a leaky defence and fixture congestion their only remaining competition is pipping Union Berlin to the Europa Conference League space in seventh, they are one point behind Urs Fischer’s men. Gladbach sit fourth and for goals scored with 60 yet 15th for goals against, 54, it is clear to see where they will be shopping this summer with it already announced that Eintracht Frankfurt’s Adi Hutter will be taking the reins.
Werder have only scored in two of their last five and are deserving of their 16th position. It has been another season of struggle for Florian Kohfeldt seeing the German gaffer relieved off his duties before this the final game of the campaign, with Koln playing Schalke a draw may not be enough to keep them up. Especially if Bielefeld can prize anything out of their trip to Stuttgart.
Goals?
Hard to call but this could come alive in dramatic fashion if the deadlock is broken early.
- Werder have scored in six of ten.
- Werder have conceded in eight of ten.
- Werder have seen both teams score in four of ten.
- Werder have seen over 2.5 goals in four of ten.
- Gladbach have scored in eight of ten.
- Gladbach have conceded in seven of ten.
- Gladbach have seen both teams score in five of ten.
- Gladbach have seen over 2.5 goals of nine of ten.
This one will mean more to Werder but Gladbach have something to fight for too, if Bielefeld get something from Stuttgart I sense this could be their time to depart the top tier of German football.
