Chelsea to equal record at Vicarage Road
Chelsea’s improvement under Lampard is great to see after an impressive victory in the Champions League was followed up by three points at Burnley. Can they heap more misery on Watford? Have a read of our preview here:
We’ll win again, don’t know when, don’t know when…
The Pozzo family must be wondering where it has all gone wrong this season for the Hornets. Having made steady improvement over the last few years this start will have come as a massive shock to the Italian owners.
They have already dismissed one manager and quickly hired one they had sacked previously. Thing are yet to improve at Vicarage Road despite going on a run of three straight draws.
Watford are yet to win a game in the Premier League this season and have failed to score in a league-high six games so far. It has been tough to watch and their lack of a cutting edge is where the real concerns lay. The 0-0 draw at home to Bournemouth was bereft of decent chances and it was probably no surprise to the supports that they failed to find the net yet again.
Watford have become the first team to fail to win any of their opening 10 games in a Premier League season on two occasions, with the Hornets also doing so in 2006-07.
This is an unwanted achievement but facing a Chelsea side that have just had an excellent week in both Europe and domestically, it is hard to see where the turnaround comes from.
Lampard’s side doing him proud
It is five straight wins in all competitions for Chelsea following an impressive 4-2 win at Turf Moor came following a win in Amsterdam and a victory over Newcastle.
They are playing with confidence and that is thanks to the faith Frank Lampard has placed in his players. Christian Pulisic got himself off the mark with two a perfect hat-trick in the win at Burnley and the Blues are starting to convince people they can be a force this season.
Chelsea have won their last six away games in all competitions - only once in their history have they won more consecutively on the road (seven between February-April 1989).
They will be heading to Vicarage Road confident that they can equal that record which given the circumstances would be amazing.
Key player: Watford
For Watford, the player to watch has to be Gerard Deulofeu who has such a natural ability he can be unplayable at times.
The Spaniard has not scored for the Hornets this season, which is a concern, but he does lead the team in shots per game (2.4) which shows he is their most consistent threat.
Key player: Chelsea
Tammy Abraham is in the form of his life for Chelsea. Eight goals and one assist in nine starts this season tells you everything you need to know about the England striker.
Watford vs Chelsea betting tip
Given the form of both sides there surely can only be one winner here. That is why we are backing Chelsea to win at odds of 8/11 although a draw is also available at 16/5 which is also well worth a nod.
