Tranmere to inflict yet more misery on Oldham
Tranmere Rovers can hand Salford City a reprieve in the EFL Trophy when the Birkenhead outfit welcome Oldham Athletic to Prenton Park for the final game in Group B. The Ammies have already completed their fixtures, but a two-goal swing for the hosts on Tuesday night would be enough to send them through to the knockout stages at the Latics' expense. Twisting my Mellon, man
Returning manager Mickey Mellon has got the Super White Army in the top half of League Two on the back of some very low-scoring matches; indeed, his side have only troubled the net on 11 occasions, one more than they've conceded. The sudden retirement of hotshot James Vaughan in the summer hasn't been adequately remedied, but they have at least kept things incredibly tight in defence. This paucity stands in complete contrast to their two performances in the tertiary domestic cup competition, where they have plundered six goals against Salford and Leeds United's U23s. Nicky Maynard has only managed to find the net outside of the league in a white shirt thus far, but will definitely still be someone his teammates look to to round off their successful pool campaign in style.
Dylan's blues
Not enough has been written about the howling shambles unfolding in one of the easternmost areas of Greater Manchester in the past few years under the sputtering auspices of owner Abdallah Lemsagam. Oldham are a club where the board are completely at odds with the fans for the way the 'business' has been run, with no shortage of former players also holding very strong opinions about the régime in an era where many die-hard supporters are choosing not to attend. Things aren't going much better on the pitch either, despite possessing in Dylan Bahamboula one of the very best players in the fourth tier. Their continued participation hangs in the balance with a stoic Keith Curle at the helm, who must somehow rally his troops as things continue to get testier off the field.

Prenton Park has proven to be a very difficult ground to come to in 2021/2022 to glean any kind of result. A draw by any method would be enough for Oldham, but they will be up against it from the off. bet365 have odds of 2.75 for a Tranmere HT/FT punt.
