Momentum building to continue in North London
Tottenham Hotspur can seal qualification from Group B with a win at home to Olympiacos on Tuesday in the aftermath of a massive week at the helm. Jose Mourinho’s third managerial job in London came about when Mauricio Pochettino was unceremoniously sacked last week, he did however take six points from his last two Champions League outings, 5-0 and 4-0 victories against third placed Crvena zvezda. The Greeks can still qualify though it is a tall, tall order needing to take all three points from North London and then at home to the Serbian champions.
New manager bounce?
It was a truly bizarre decision to many to relieve legendary boss Mauricio Pochettinoof his duties however Mourinho has a proven track in the Premier League and Champions League, winning it with both Porto and Inter Milan, it must be said not in recent years though. The Portuguese former interpreter comes to the immaculate Tottenham Hotspur Stadium with a point to prove.
It was a disappointing 2-2 draw at the Karaiskakis Stadium in the reverse fixture where the Red-Whites came back from two down thanks to Daniel Podence’s goal on the stroke of half time and Mathieu Valbuena shortly after from the spot. The Greek Super League runners-up came through three rounds of qualifying to reach the group stage and will not be giving it up easily especially with third place in the group guaranteeing a potentially lucrative spot in the Europa League knockout stages.
Ones to Watch
The ever-consistent Son Heung-Min has been on red hot form in Europe this season scoring in three of their four group games and five in total. He is 23/20 to score at anytime with Black Type. A threat from all angles who is bound to stretch the Olympiacosbackline will certainly cause tonnes of problems, creating space for Harry Kane and co.
Some might say 23-year-old attacking midfielder Dele Alli’s career has stagnated somewhat post-2018 World Cup, and the change of backroom staff could go a long way to bringing back the incredible heights we saw from him in the three years building up to that international tournament. Experienced beyond his years the Champions League finalist needs to kick on having lost his place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad and possibly Mourinho can be the man to get him back on track. The ex-Chelsea boss has had a great effect on goalscoring midfielders like Frank Lampard and Wesley Sneijderin the past, for Spurs’ sake let’s hope he can do the same with Alli.
Tottenham will win comfortably and build some momentum following their narrow 3-2 win over West Ham United at the London Stadium on Saturday.
