Liverpool to carry on the charge at Spurs
The Premier League returns at the weekend following a riveting round of FA Cup matches. Spurs will be looking to get their campaign back on track as the host Liverpool but do they really have a chance? Have a read of our preview here:
Spurs still struggling
Jose Mourinho’s impact has been evident since his arrival at Tottenham but they are still struggling to be consistent enough to break into the top four.
The main issue has been some woeful defensive performances which has seen them allow the opposition to take full advantage of some fairly innocuous situations.
The Londoners have only kept one clean sheet in 11 games in all competitions since Mourinho took charge and he will be looking to address this in January.
The 1-0 defeat against Southampton will have been extremely disappointing for the Portuguese coach as he watched his side toil against the lowly Saints.
The worst news was to come, however, as the club confirmed that Harry Kane, who limped off at St Marys, will be out of action for some time after tearing his hamstring.
The Tottenham captain showed his character following the news by tweeting the message: “Head up. Tough times don’t last, tough people do.”
It is a testament to his positive nature but does not disguise that massive blow his loss will be for Mourinho’s side, especially against a Liverpool team who have an excellent defensive record this season.
They got this in the bag
Without labouring a point, Liverpool must surely know this title is theirs. No one can imagine they will suffer the kind of loss in form required to see another side snatch the league away from them and if they can beat Spurs it will surely be a formality.
The question now is whether they can do it without losing a game? It is looking increasingly likely with the rest of the division just so far behind them in terms of quality.
The phrase ‘now or never’ is used far too much but Liverpool will not have a better chance, given the weakness of their traditional rivals, to win a Premier League crown without being defeated. You can’t say they don’t deserve it either.
Tottenham v Liverpool betting tip
This Liverpool team is on a different level to every other side around them, even those who managed to keep pace with them for much of last season. Even if Spurs produce a top performance it is hard to see past the Reds in this one so backing Liverpool to win at odds of 7/10 with 888sport.
