Tough test for Conte against Potters' seagulls
Brighton have proven a tough test for nearly every team that they've faced. Graham Potter's men are certainly on an upward curve and will really fancy their chances at a good run in the FA Cup.
They take on a Spurs side who will be desperate for some silverware this season, but Conte's men will also have one eye on their European qualification charge in the league.
Spurs' squad shaken up in January
Antonio Conte has brought some potential key players in from the Serie A, with both Rodrigo Bentancur and Dejan Kulusevski joining on the final day of the window. With the disappointment of their Carabao Cup exit still overhanging Spurs, new additions and the potential of silverware should give them more than enough motivation to get back on track.
Last three results:
Tottenham 0-1 Chelsea (12.01.22)
Leicester City 2-3 Tottenham (19.01.22)
Chelsea 2-0 Tottenham (23.01.22)
The 8pm kick off on Saturday sees Spurs play their first game in nearly two weeks. Allowing Dele Alli, Giovanni Lo Celso and Tanguy Ndombele to leave on a mixture of loans and permanent deals frees up some space in the middle of the park particularly.
Aside from the incomings, Spurs will be looking towards their talisman Harry Kane who has an excellent record in this competition. His 11 goals in as many games in the FA Cup includes a substitute goal against Morecambe in the previous round.
Seagulls soaring up the table and searching for silverware
Brighton head to the capital unbeaten in their past seven games in all competitions. Potter will be very keen to ensure that they can carry on this resilient form when it comes to the cup.
Last three results:
Brighton 1-1 Crystal Palace (14.01.22)
Brighton 1-1 Chelsea (18.01.22)
Leicester City 1-1 Brighton (23.01.22)
Draw merchants is an appropriate term for Albion's season form, drawing 12 games this campaign. Their last round saw them beat West Brom 2-1 in extra-time, with a Neal Maupay extra time winner sealing the victory for the Seagulls.
In the January window, Brighton lost Dan Burn to moneybags Newcastle for a £15m fee. Coming in the other way (sort of) is Deniz Undav for £6m, who has been instantly loaned back out to Royale Union Saint-Gilloise in the Belgian Pro League. Tony Bloom is co-owner of the Belgian side and his connection there has proven valuable.
Some interesting trivia:
- Tottenham have won each of their last seven home games against Brighton in all competitions, a run that dates back to 1982.
- Brighton have won only two of their last nine FA Cup matches against fellow Premier League opposition.
- Tottenham have reached the fifth round of the FA Cup in five of the last six seasons.
The Verdict:
Brighton are defensively very solid, but also lack a little bit of cutting edge up top. Spurs are still finding their feet, but I fancy them to advance to the next round.
However, the market for a low amount of goals looks favourable here. That's why I'm going with below 2.5 goals with bet365.
