Value on Mariners at Wembley
Solihull Moors take on Grimsby Town at Wembley Stadium for a place in League Two on Sunday afternoon.
The Moors come in as favourites after finishing third in the National League, compared to the Mariners in sixth, and having put together an outstanding run at the business end of the season.
Grimsby have an array of former EFL talent, where the Moors have less but they do have a manager on the up again in Neal Ardley.
Paul Hurst has been as high as the Championship in his time, going from Grimsby Town to Shrewsbury Town to Ipswich Town to Scunthorpe United and then back to the Mariners by the age of 47.
Background
In Gavan Holohan, Luke Waterfall, Tristan Abrahams, Emmanuel Dieseruvwe, Jordan Maguire-Drew and Arjan Raikhy, along with others, Grimsby have the talent to upset the odds.
Fuelled by the high of beating Wrexham in one to greatest ties in the history of the play-offs, the Mariners will fancy their chances and will be hoping that the occasion gets to Solihull Moors.
Grimsby will likely have the larger support at Wembley Stadium and it will be interesting to see how big of an impact that will have on proceedings.
Luke Waterfall will be one to watch at set piece situations after his brace from centre back in the semi final, in a match that would have given Hurst nightmares defensively despite progression.
There are a lot of goals in the Moors side, they were the third highest scoring side in the division and got the better of Paul Cook’s Chesterfield to a 3-1 scoreline in their semi final.
Neal Ardley has positive Wembley experience from his days in the dugout of AFC Wimbledon, and could call on that in tense moments on Sunday.
Goals?
The tension and enormity of the match would suggest unders, but the erratic nature of the National League suggests otherwise, I am happier leaning on the Asian Handicap.
