Don't expect goals as Sangju Sangmu host Daegu
Sangju Sangmu will be pleased with the start they have made as they prepare to kick-off the K-League on Friday. Can they maintain this positive mood against Daegu? Have a read of our preview here:
Making strides
Last season Sangju Sangmu finished seventh in the K-League which was a solid effort but also a bit bittersweet considering how close they were to AFC Champions League qualification.
The side are unique in the fact they are the sporting arm of the South Korean military forces. They can, therefore, be extremely happy with how much progress they have made as a team.
It is also worth noting Sangju Sangmu have no foreign players in their squad whatsoever unlike many of their opponents in the K-League.
An opening day defeat this season at the hands of Ulsan looked like the Firebirds were well off the pace, but they have swiftly put that behind them, winning each of their last two games without conceding.
That defensive improvement will have delighted manager Kim Tae-wan who was unhappy with the 4-0 defeat in game week one.
They bounced back with a 2-0 win over Gangwon where Kang Sang-woo netted the opener from the spot and he was key last weekend again, netting the only goal in a 1-0 win over Gwangju.
Six points from a possible nine will be seen as a good return and the improved defensive effort will certainly be needed against Daegu on Friday night.
Just one point-away from continental qualification
Much like their opponents this weekend, Daegu were left frustrated at the end of the 2019 season because they were left just one point outside the last qualification spot for the AFC Champions League.
It was an improvement of their 2018 season, but certainly a case of so near yet so far.
They started the campaign with two draws and that gave them something to build on. They are another side that have a solid defensive unit anchored by a back three with Jeong Tae-Wook at its heart.
They will be tough to break down and look to get the ball forward quickly to target man Edgar Silva, who has already opened his account for the season.
Sangju Sangmu vs Daegu betting tip
Neither side are free-scoring and Daegu will set up with five at the back so goals are likely to be in short supply. With that in mind, we are backing this one to finish with under 2.5 goals at odds of 2.25 with bet365.
