Sweden to keep it tight in huge Group F encounter
Sweden travel to Romania with everything on the line in Group F, the Swedes are second just one point above the Tricolours in third who are in need of a huge performance to try and set up qualification with only one game left upon this one’s conclusion. It is a great time to play in front of your home fans and create and hostile atmosphere in getting behind their nation, a draw should be enough for Janne Andersson’s side given the fact Romania have Spain away in their last game. The following challenge at group leaders Spain means that this is a must win for the hosts with Sweden having a home game against Faroe Islands to fall back and book their place at Euro 2020.
Battle for second place
Sweden’s 2-1 victory in the reverse fixture is one of only two competitive defeats in over two years for the Tricolours. The hosts have found the net in their last 10 matches on the trot and therefore have reasons aplenty to be optimistic about getting the better of Sweden, Claudiu Keseru got their consolation in the first game of the campaign loss to the Swedes however their performances have been far more fruitful of late.
Disappointingly for the hosts they could only manage a 1-1 draw with fourth placed Norwayin their last encounter which gave Sweden a firm upper hand in the race to deputise Spain at the top, however the notable form of George Puscas means they have nothing to fear on Friday evening.
George Puscas
One of the stars of the U21’s run to the semi-finals of the European Championshipsthis summer has hit the ground running in England, after a big money move to Reading from Inter Milan. The 23-year-old has five goals in 11 caps but crucially four of those coming in his last five appearances. A prolific prodigy in the Internazionale youth system has shown glimpses of his clear talent in domestic men’s football however not as much as the prowess he has demonstrated for his national team.
He scored nine goals in Serie B for Palermo last season who have now been relegated down to Serie D following financial mismanagement, the one standout performance this season in the Championship was in when he bagged a brace in a 3-0 win over Cardiff City. Putting his side 2-0 up in the first half with strikes with either foot, justifying his £8million transfer fee in front of the home faithful.
Romania will throw everything at this resilient Swedish outfit, however they will be solid in defence and most likely come away with a positive result.
