Roma to end Napoli streak?
Roma take on Napoli in a very exciting top of the table clash in Serie A’s Sunday serving.
Gli Azzurri have been one of the stories of the season so far, winning 11 matches on the bounce domestically and in the Champions League, with Luciano Spalletti picking up some overdue praise for his abilities in the dugout.
It was hard to see Napoli improving significantly with Lorenzo Insigne, Dries Mertens and Kalidou Koulibaly all leaving the club in the summer, having been reliable contributors for many years.
Roma are quietly putting together a potential title bid of their own under Jose Mourinho, with Serie A looking wide open, despite Gli Azzurri’s scintillating start.
Process
Roma have the best defensive process in Serie A this season, conceding nine from ten outings so far from 6.3 expected goals (xG) against.
The Yellow and Reds have restricted the opposition to just 0.63 xGA per game, and in that it will be fascinating to see how they perform against an attacking contingent that is beginning to be feared all around Europe.
Mourinho’s men have improved enormously in the final third as well, unsustainably underperforming to score just 13 goals from 22.4 xGF, creating chances at a very healthy average of 2.24 xGF per game.
Napoli are slightly better in the final third, and have been very clinical so far this season. Spalletti’s men have scored 25 goals from 24.1 xGF, creating chances at 2.41 xGF per game, the best attacking process in the league.
It should be a cracking atmosphere at the Stadio Olimpico as Napoli come calling, with Mourinho putting together a sophisticated plan to nullify arguably the best team in Europe so far this season.

Potentially on the cards, but I am a slave to the data and there is some value in the hosts delaying the Napoli train with an assured defensive display.
