Top of the table clash at Vicarage Road
Two sides with 100% records face off in the final game of the Premier League weekend late on Sunday afternoon. Of the two, I reckon Watford will suffer their first loss of the campaign but this won’t still stop them contributing to a goal fest at Vicarage Road!
Watford
Coping with a long list of injuries in the Premier League when you’re a side like Watford isn’t always an easy challenge. Yet, the players to have come in have stepped up to the plate, so much so they haven’t stopped winning! It goes to show that a good spirit and a little quality can go far and so much of this is true of Watford and Roberto Pereyra who has sparkled so far.
One game too far for Watford
The Hornets are also benefitting from having a fit-again Will Hughes back in the thick of the action. The former Derby midfielder originally impressed at the start of last season but, as has been the case with many Watford players, he ended up spending the majority of his time on the treatment table rather than on the pitch. Three starts and one ‘goal of the month’ contender has seen the 23 year old make another encouraging start.
In spite of all this, I expect this to be one game too far for Watford. They are certainly in a good place physically and mentally to give Spurs a run for their money but lack the quality overall required to beat one of the best in the division.
Tottenham
When discussing title contenders, Spurs are always considered dark horses for the title but never a front-runner which is a fair assessment of where they’re at as a team at present. Capable of beating anybody in the league on their day, Pochettino’s side have yet to prove themselves as genuine championship winners over the course of a whole campaign.
They’re not doing a bad job so far this season though and I think this is owed much to the continuity of the squad and the first team who have been together for some time. Some say they’re a major injury away from disaster but so long as they manage to keep Trippier, Eriksen and Kane fit and healthy then this Spurs team will continue to flourish. Even more so now Moura is beginning to find his feet in the Premier League; the Brazilian has linked up well with Kane and has more than made up for the absence of Son.
Full of confidence
Three wins on the spin is impressive, especially with Manchester United away as one of those three, a fixture Spurs are notorious for performing poorly in. The comprehensive manner of the victory will see Spurs remain grounded but begin this match full of confidence. However, I’m not convinced they’ll manage a clean sheet, especially if they’re as open as they were in the first half at Old Trafford.
Match Tip
Two sides who play nice free-flowing football should make for a highly entertaining Sunday afternoon. I fully expect Spurs to go out and do the business in terms of taking all three points. However, Watford certainly have it in them get on the scoresheet and cause Hugo Lloris and his defence plenty of problems.
