Top of the table tussle as Porto charge on
Porto play host to title rivals Sporting CP on Friday night. The visitors will be desperate to try and claw back at Porto who have raced away to a six point advantage at the top of the Primeira Liga.
Porto powering forwards
Searching for their 30th league title, Porto will put themselves firmly into the driving seat with a win on Friday evening.
Last three results:
Porto 3-1 Famalicao (23.01.22)
Porto 2-1 Matitimo (30.01.22)
Arouca 0-2 Porto (06.02.22)
They ran out comfortable 2-0 winners on Sunday against Arouca. Vitinha opened the scoring just after the break with centre back Chancel Mbemba grabbing the second just a few minutes later.
This has carried on their formidable form so far this season. They've won 19 and draw only twice in 21 games this season. This unbeaten season will be put to a massive test against Sporting however, who have only lost twice this season themselves.
Sporting playing catchup
Two wins on the bounce for the visitors has given Sporting some much needed hope in this title race, where every point counts.
Last three results:
Benfica 1-2 Sproting (29.01.22)
B-SAD 1-4 Sporting (02.02.22)
Sporting 2-0 Famalicao (06.02.22)
Coming still fresh from their Taca Da Liga triumph over Benfica, giving Sporting their first piece of silverware of the season. This has been followed up by this form continuing in the league.
Their 2-0 win against lowly Famalicao was fairly routine. An early Pablo Sarabia penalty settled any early doubts with Matheus Reis following up at the hour mark to seal all three points.
Some interesting trivia:
- In their 23 meetings where Porto have been at home, they've won 16 times.
- 10 times these sides have met it's finished 0-0.
- The last time Sporting won away at Porto was back in 2016.
The Verdict:
This game is monumental in the title battle between these two sides. But, Porto have been so formidable this season and have rarely faltered. Their unbeaten record will carry on I think, but it won't be easy for the hosts.
That's why I'm going with Porto to win with bet365.
