Rennes to match PSG with headstart
Paris Saint-Germain have the chance to increase their 13 point lead at the top of Ligue 1 when they host Rennes on Friday evening.
Mauricio Pochettino will be relieved to be gaining some kind of credit in the bank with the Parisians running away with the league title after Lille stunned the continent to claim top spot in 2020/21.
Rennes have been one of the more exciting outsiders this season and will be confident of kicking on to finish in the top three in the coming months.
Ligue 1 was a bit of minefield punting wise during the Africa Cup of Nations with a lot of teams losing key players, but now Senegal have been crowned champions for the first time, it should be slightly easier to determine the strength of the sides at play.
Process
As is to be expected when you compare the finances of the clubs, PSG are building an unassailable lead at the top of the table and are comfortably the best side in both boxes according to expected goals (xG).
Pochettino’s men have overperformed to score 51 from 42.4 xGF in the league and to conceded just 19 from 22.2, however with the talent at their disposal it does not come as too much of a surprise.
Rennes have been very strong also in the final third.
Bruno Genesio’s men rank second for xGF and will be expecting to cause some problems for the Parisians to contend with on Friday evening.
SRFC rank fourth for defensive process and in that should be able to stick around towards the top end of the table as we approach the run-ins.
Gaetan Laborde and Martin Terrier have been very handy in attack this season and should relish the opportunity of testing themselves against the best defensive unit in Ligue 1.
Goals?
Unders was a consideration however, the lines are very well priced up and therefore not presenting enough value to get involved with.
PSG have scored in nine of ten.
PSG have conceded in four of ten.
PSG have seen both teams score in four of ten.
PSG have seen over 2.5 goals in five of ten.
Rennes have scored in eight of ten.
Rennes have conceded in five of ten.
Rennes have seen both teams score in four of ten.

Rennes can compete with PSG if they are on their game as complacency creeps in at the Parc des Princes.
