Norwich vs Aston Villa is so 1990s
Two sides that won promotion last season have, unsurprisingly, struggled to adapt to the Premier League so far. Will it be Norwich who come out on top at Carrow Road or will the Villans live up to their nickname? Have a read of our preview here:
This is so 1990s
Just one point separates these two sides heading into this one and it is not that shocking to see them both finding the jump up to the Premier League tough. Many who have tried to make the leap over the last few years have found the pace and unforgiving nature of top-flight football in England hard to get used to.
There is something reassuringly familiar about this fixture to those of a certain age. Norwich and Villa was a mainstay match-up in the 1990s and looking back on some of the players to have done battle over the years it is great to see them face each other in the Premier League once more.
Norwich fans may well remember the likes of Ruel Fox, Chris Sutton, Tim Sherwood and Ian Culverhouse to name but a few, turning out in any number of yellow and green ensemble kits during that period. Likewise, a Villa side with Dean Saunders and Dalian Atkinson was equally as impressive.
They are both in a new era of their respective histories, but it can be argued that they now find themselves exactly where they should be but staying there will be a different challenge altogether.
How they have started
Villa travel to Carrow Road with only one win in their opening seven games. That came against Everton in just the third game of the campaign. Since then, they have not managed to get another three-point haul despite leading at half-time in both of the last two games.
The Villans have lost four, drawn two and won just once this season and find themselves in the bottom three heading into the game at Norwich.
The Canaries have also had their ups and downs. The most notable plus for the Yellows was the fantastic victory against Premier League champions Manchester City. This result was exceptional not only because they beat the champions but also because they netted three times against a normally impenetrable defence.
Norwich have not scored a top-flight goal in the subsequent two games, losing 2-0 to both Burnley and Crystal Palace on the road which again highlights how important Carrow Road will be if Daniel Farke’s side are going to survive this season.
