City have eyes on nabbing third spot from United
Manchester City have partly recovered from a very poor start to their Women's Super League campaign, and the best they can hope for now is probably a podium finish as London rivals Arsenal and Chelsea fight it out for the title. Everton are the visitors to the Academy Stadium for Wednesday's evening kick-off, looking to avoid a fourth defeat against the same opposition in a single season. Read our preview here:
Hemp's far from ropey
Gareth Taylor's side rode the storm in the early weeks, often lacking many of their key women as they struggled to even fulfil some fixtures. However, they are now back in good stead, only missing veteran centre-back Steph Houghton from the squad. Alanna Kennedy will continue to deputise alongside former Man Utd stopper Alex Greenwood. Elsewhere, Lauren Hemp has a goal every other game from out wide, which included a brace to seal passage through to the FA Cup semis last time out.
Duggan for victory
Scoring has been the major problem in 2021/2022 for the Toffees, and reversing that trend is paramount to preserve their top flight status as the run-in gets underway. Toni Duggan returned to the club where she made her name last summer, but the left-sided forward has only three strikes for the blue half of Liverpool. Playmaker Izzy Christiansen has also struggled badly this term, and having her on song is key for the fortunes of interim pair management Chris Roberts and Claire Ditchburn.
Betting tip
Everton finished fifth last year, but the onus is now on them being assured of a place in the WSL in the short-term. Man City have looked less defensively solid in the absence of Houghton, so odds of 3.00 for a home win with both teams scoring with bet365 look decent.
