Exciting football as Chelsea travel to Man City

West Ham host Spurs in the early kick-off on Saturday in the Premier League with both sides playing below expectations so far. Can either team use this London derby as a springboard for the rest of their season? Have a read of our preview here:

Defensive flaws exposed

Liverpool’s 3-1 over Manchester City highlighted just how much Pep’s side miss Vincent Kompany. The club legend was such an important figure at the back for the Citizens, they now appear to lack the leadership needed in key defensive situations.

Liverpool were able to exploit those weaknesses, as were Norwich earlier in the season, leaving many questioning Guardiola’s side. The Spaniard was also pretty damning of his players after the defeat at Anfield, asserting that several teams have more chance at the title than they do.

"There are three teams that have more chances to win the Premier League than us. We're in November so let's see what happens."

There is still a long way to go but defeat against a Chelsea side that can counter in a similar way to Liverpool would leave the champions looking for a rebuild in January.

Do Chelsea lack pragmatism

Following Chelsea’s win over Crystal Palace, former Blues boss Jose Mourinho came out with comments that suggested he wasn’t convinced Lampard’s side has enough to finish in the top two this season because they lack an ability to be pragmatic against the bigger sides in the Premier League.

“In the first weekend I was worried and I’m still worried with the big matches,” he told Sky Sports after the game.

“I think fantastic work the kids that are coming to the team, they’re fitting amazingly well with top-class players like Willian, [N’Golo] Kante.

“I think really, really great work by Frank but they lost twice against United, they lost against Liverpool at home, they conceded four goals against Ajax and I am very, very curious to see Chelsea in the next match at the Etihad.

“I am curious to see if they have found that great empathy between the great football they play and the pragmatism that the top teams must have especially to play against the top teams.

“When they find that I think they have a great team for the future. I don’t believe in them to finish top two but I believe very seriously they will finish top four.”

The trip to the Etihad will be a stern test of those qualities and Lampard will have to find a way of helping his side beat the big club in the league if they are to remain hot on the heels of Liverpool.

Man City vs. Chelsea betting tip

This is a game many will be really looking forward to and with good reason. City still produce some of the best attacking football in Europe while Chelsea are a genuinely exciting team under the management of Frank Lampard. That’s why we are backing both teams to score at odds of 13/20 with betway, a nice price for a game between these two sides.
