Luton to get off to ideal Championship start
Luton Town were beaten in last season's EFL Championship play-offs at the semi-final stage, though few pundits ever expected them to come even close to promotion to the Premier League. Manager Nathan Jones continues to preside over a club on the up, and his side will entertain a Birmingham City outfit on Saturday at Kenilworth Road that has been dominated once again by takeover talk. Read our preview here:
Carlton's got soul
One signing that is sure to start for the Hatters tomorrow is striker Carlton Morris, who signed from relegated Barnsley earlier in the summer. A versatile forward who can also play on the left or in the hole, he could be an important link player in the 3-5-2 Jones likes to deploy. Fellow new acquisition Luke Freeman is an injury doubt for the curtain raiser, so Jordan Clark will keep the midfield ticking over.
Trusty steed
John Eustace is back in the main managerial gig after a four-year spell playing second fiddle at Queens Park Rangers. His focus is solely on keeping the Blues in the second tier, particularly whilst prospective owners Maxi Lopez and Paul Richardson are looking to secure a deal to assume control of the board. On the pitch, Auston Trusty has signed on loan from Arsenal, and the American centre back's first job will be to prevent Morris having a memorable bow in an orange shirt. Veteran 'keeper John Ruddy, released by neighbours Wolverhampton Wanderers, will likely have a busy afternoon I'm Bedfordshire.
