Liverpool vs Arsenal: Expect an open game
Liverpool take on Arsenal in the League Cup fourth round on Wednesday with the game arguably far more important to the Gunners than the Reds. Will Arsenal go for it at Anfield? Have a read of our preview here:
Best chance of some silverware
It doesn’t seem right that Arsenal are looking at the League Cup as the best chance they have of winning a trophy this season, but it already looks that way.
With the FA Cup yet to start for sides in the top-flight, the Gunners will be looking towards Wednesday night as a chance to get into the last eight of a competition with Chelsea or Manchester United being eliminated in round four also.
Arsenal fans must be doing their nut after they witnessed their side surrender a two-goal lead for the second time this season following the capitulation against Watford in mid-September.
With a seemingly comfortable lead at home to Palace on Sunday, the Gunners inextricably allowed the away side back into it. This has been a tough campaign so far and the cup could be a welcome distraction.
Four draws in the league plus two defeats has seen the pressure and dissenting voices continue to climb at the Emirates and Granit Xhaka’s reaction to being substituted in the second half will only fan the flames further.
Klopp it to them baby
After conceding an early goal against Tottenham, Liverpool clawed their way back in front and in doing so regained their six-point lead at the top of the Premier League table.
This is their priority without doubt, but they will still put out a capable side against Arsenal in the cup on Wednesday. Giving some of the fringe players and exciting youngsters an opportunity should allow for a great night’s entertainment at Anfield but it could also give the Gunners a slight edge should they choose to take the competition more seriously.
One to watch: Liverpool
Keep an eye out for Harvey Elliott. The 16-year-old midfielder is a truly exciting prospect and was excellent in the win at MK Dons earlier in this competition. He has skill, a great touch and the ability to pick a pass – certainly, a great future lies ahead for this lad.
One to watch: Arsenal
Gabriel Martinellihas already netted twice in this competition and three times in the Europa League. Still only 18, the Brazilian looks like he could be a great player for the Gunners and is likely to be given a start on Wednesday.
Liverpool vs Arsenal betting tip
