Liverpool Chelsea could be cagey
Liverpool welcome Chelsea in arguably the most high profile fixture of the season so far, the Reds and the Blues are expected to be Manchester City’s biggest challengers to stop them retaining their title and an early chance to stretch a gap over their opponents will excite former colleagues Jurgen Klopp and Thomas Tuchel. Liverpool are the narrowest of favourites but you really cannot split them, both sides have picked up six points from their opening two games scoring five goals and conceding zero. A goals selection feels like the most ideal considering the evenly matched affair.
Background
Romelu Lukaku got off to an excellent start to his career at Chelsea, notching the opener in the side’s 2-0 win at Arsenal. It was a walk in the park for Tuchel’s men which even despite Arsenal’s decline was an extremely professional display. Reece James popped up with the second, bombing forward from right wing back, picked out effortlessly by Mason Mount providing a very satisfying assist for Chelsea fans, made in the club’s academy.
The Reds beat Burnley 2-0 with goals from Sadio Mane and Diogo Jota, the latter and Portugal international is really growing into his role at the club and may even be preferred to Roberto Firmino this term. Virgil Van Dijk is back at the heart of the Liverpool defence and in that the whole club has breathed a sigh of relief, an incredibly calming influence and a truly world class player.
Even with the money spent in attack and the way these two can hammer lower top-flight opposition, their strength still lies in defence. Chelsea are astute once in the lead, with the relentless running of midfielders like N’Golo Kante and Mateo Kovacic and the newly found reading of the game of Antonio Rudiger, they have come on leaps and bounds since Tuchel arrived in the capital.
Therefore in looking to predict an outcome for this game, I am going for a familiar fellow top six matchup selection, an unders punt. You can find value with Betway at just over 1.8, which considering how these teams operate, and the fact that deep down both Klopp and Tuchel would be delighted to escape Anfield with their respective unbeaten records intact is a generous price. Whoever scores the first goal, if there is one, will naturally play more defensively, it is just how they are drilled both so adept at seeing games out. Making the chances of three or more goals in the encounter, unlikely in my opinion.
