LA Galaxy to struggle once more against the Quakes
An out of form LA Galaxy play host to San Jose Earthquakes on Saturday morning in the California Clasico, San Jose won the last meeting 3-0 less than two weeks ago and MLS all-time top scorer Chris Wondolowski has an excellent record against them. Both sides currently sit inside the playoff places in the Western Conference with Galaxy in second and the Quakes in sixth. The entertaining striker that is Zlatan Ibrahimovic will be back in action having had an eventful game in his previous meeting with San Jose, scoring two but also getting sent off.
Recent form
LA have won their last two matches at home and have been victorious without conceding in seven games this season. Their recent fixtures have been very contrasting with the victors in all encounters doing so by two or more goals, the hosts are six points and four places ahead of the visitors in the table but are arguably coming into this match in worse form, having only picked up 12 points from their last 10 outings.
The Quakes have only won once on the road in their last 13 trips, however only failing to get on the scoresheet on one of those occasions. 10 out of the 30 goals they have let in this season have come between the 61st and 75th minute with six of their last seven matches bringing over 2.5 goals. Frontman Wondolowski has scored 14 goals in 26 appearances against the Galaxy and will rise to the challenge with his opposite number being such a significant MLS icon. San Jose have a good record at Dignity Health Sports Park with two wins, a draw and a loss in their last four visits and will be confident having only lost twice in their last 13 matches. A solid backline has been crucial to their good form with three clean sheets along side victories in their last four encounters.
Key men
The forwards are the biggest names in this clash and their franchises are heavily reliant on their performances, Ibrahimovic leads the way in the scoring charts with 13 in comparison to Wondolowski’s eight. The 37-year-old Swede grabbed a brace in his last match, a 2-0 win over Toronto FC, after failing to bag in his previous two. Also a veteran at 36, Wondolowski is going through a six match goal drought at the moment but with his excellent record in this matchup it is likely he could end his poor run in this fixture.
San Jose Earthquakes will give a good account of themselves once again away to LA Galaxy who are slightly out of sorts at the moment, with the 3-0 defeat to Saturday’s visitors still fresh in their mind.
