Forest to finally get back to the Premier League
Underdogs Huddersfield Town do battle with Nottingham Forest on Sunday afternoon at Wembley to determine which side will make up the last entrants to the 2022/2023 Premier League. The Terriers have defied all expectations to reach the EFL Championship play-off final this season, whilst victory for Steve Cooper's men would mark a return to the top tier for the first time in a generation. Sweet on Toff
Having finished way down in 20th last season, few observers were expecting a promotion push from the West Yorkshire outfit, but like David Wagner before him, Carlos Corberán has masterminded a remarkable campaign. Whilst Danny Ward has hit 14 goals up front, a significant number of his teammates have chipped in, including left wing-back Harry Toffolo with six. What's especially encouraging is that these have mostly come during the run-in with the stakes and pressure both getting higher.
From Zinc to gold
When Cooper took over in late September, Forest were bottom of the pile, and their stirring recovery to finish fourth has been one of the stories of the year. Young Welsh international Brennan Johnson has had a scintillating term, adding 10 assists to an 18-goal haul. His combined efforts with Lewis Grabban spearheaded their surge up the standings, though the latter will be missing through injury on Sunday; Sam Surridge could be set to deputise. Philip Zinckernagel will rove between the lines, ensuring that their opponents have more than just the strikers to worry about.
Betting tip
Both teams have had outstanding seasons, with Huddersfield edging surprise packages Luton Town to reach the final, with Nottingham Forest's margin of victory over Sheffield United the slimmest possible. The penalty shootout win for the latter has ensured momentum is still present, and betway have odds of 2.30 that Cooper will lead his charges back to the Premier League for the first time since 1999 in normal time.
