Inter to go back to back at stubborn Hellas
Simone Inzaghi’s Inter Milan travel to Hellas Verona in looking for back to back wins to kick-off the Serie A campaign. It was an excellent start to life under Inzaghi, putting Genoa to the sword in their first fixture 4-0. Milan Skriniar, Hakan Calhanoglu, Arturo Vidal and Edin Dzeko got the ball rolling, if this new look Inter can gel in good time, they put themselves in a great position to challenge for the title. Hellas Verona went down 3-2 at home to Sassuolo, Mattia Zaccagni bagged a brace, he only managed five goals in the league last season so an excellent start personally for the 26-year-old.
Background
The big losses at Inter come in the form of Romelu Lukaku who scored on his second Chelsea debut last weekend, and Antonio Conte who achieved what he set out to do in Milan by picking up the Scudetto last season. Hellas Verona have been known for being hard to break down since their promotion to the top-flight, that record did not get off the best start by shipping three in their opening outing, therefore Inter will be confident they can fill their boots and start the season in a positive manner.
Taking into account their performances in the last couple of seasons, Hellas on the road is a trickier affair than hosting Genoa and Inzaghi will be wary of that. Inter have now scored 25 unanswered goals against Genoa, a very kind match to get settled into the season.
Denzel Dumfries is the headline addition at Inter this summer, the Dutch flying full back will be hoping to fill the void left behind by Achraf Hakimi who made the move to big spending Paris Saint-Germain. Nicolo Barella returns to the club a Euro 2020 hero and his work ethic is unquestionable coming straight back to start the opener.
One change Inter will want to implement from other seasons is their success in the Champions League, having failed to reach the knockout stages in both of their campaigns under Conte. Inzaghi ran Lazio to the Serie A title in 2019/20 and now has the chance to go again with a greater budget and quality of players.
Hellas may try to stifle Inter’s style and frustrate them in their first league away trip under Inzaghi.
