Germany to motor on through to the semi-finals
Germany take on friendly rivals Austria on Thursday night at the Brentford Community Stadium for a place in the semi-finals against either France or Netherlands, who play on Saturday. Die Nationalelf have won the Euros eight times previously, and will be confident of making the possibility of it becoming nine that much more likely. Read our preview here:
Get the Gwinn
Like hosts England in the group stage, Martina Voss-Tecklenburg's charges won all three matches convincingly without conceding a goal, widely distributing the goalscoring burden amongst the squad. Only Alexandra Popp has scored more than once, which has taken the focus away from just how well the back four have defended as a collective. Giulia Gwinn often plays like an inverted full-back on the left flank whilst not neglecting her main duties, and has had a quietly impressive tournament thus far.
Typecast Dunst
Irene Fuhrmann steered her side their pool, narrowly losing 1-0 in the opener to the Lionesses before then rallying to see off both Northern Ireland and a faltering Norway. Hoffenheim's Nicole Billa got the decisive strike in the final game to ensure their passage into the knockout stage, and a lot will hinge on her coming up with the goods again. Elsewhere, the pacey Barbara Dunst will be a crucial component in the midfield five.
Betting tip
Austria are undoubtedly underdogs, but could hold Germany for a while. To that end, bet365 have odds for a draw at half-time and a win for the latter at full-time.
