Boreham Wood to briefly dream of the impossible
National League promotion hopefuls Boreham Wood have nothing to lose in perhaps the biggest match of their recent history when they head to Goodison Park on Thursday to face relegation threatened Premier League side Everton. Frank Lampard has not enjoyed a honeymoon period since taking over the Toffees, and anything other than a thrashing will continue to worry long-suffering supporters. Read our preview here:
Vitalii performs
The situation in Ukraine is unlikely to be resolved anytime soon, and its effect is far-reaching. Few would begrudge recent left-back signing Vitalii Mykolenko were he to not be in the right frame of mind for football, but he is admirably putting himself forward for selection. He should be instructed to support Alex Iwobi at every opportunity down his flank, especially with several other starters cup-tied for the game. Veteran striker Salomón Rondón will lead the line, desperately hoping to improve on his single strike in 16 appearances since joining.
Boden-s well
Manager Luke Garrard has been in post six years, and the Wood now regularly compete in the top half of the table alongside more moneyed and famous clubs which have fallen out of the EFL. They have only conceded 17 times in the division, and could find the hosts somewhat blunted without some of their stars in attacking areas. Elsewhere, Scott Boden will partner Tyrone Marsh up top. Whilst neither have been prolific this term, having two forwards should at least give the home side something to think about even when they have possession in their own third.
Betting tip
As ever in these situations, with four tiers separating the two teams, Everton are overwhelming favourites to win, but as AFC Bournemouth found out in the previous round, Boreham Wood are more than capable of upsetting the apple cart. bet365 have odds of 2.38 for both teams to score in 90 minutes.
