United to come unstuck against the Toffees
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was brutally honest about the work United need to do if they are to challenge at the top once more and it won’t happen overnight.
‘We have loads of work to do’
Manchester United were taught a lesson in their Champions League double header with Barcelona. The Spanish giants were head and shoulders above the once great United and Solskjaer was well aware of the fact.
After the game, which finished 3-0 on aggregate, he was perfectly open and honest about how far his side are behind the best in the world and admitted that United ‘have loads of work to do’ in order to return to their traditional best.
This summer the Red Devils need to bring in some quality if only to keep pace with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City. United’s business last summer left a lot to be desired and that gave them little chance of competing with the top sides this season.
Toffees starting to stick
The Toffees appear, despite a poor performance against Fulham, to finally be getting to grips with the way Marco Silva wants them to play.
Everton have lost just twice in the last seven games and have taken a very respectable 13 point from the last 21 available.
It has not been the best of seasons for the Toffees but they still look like finishing in the top half of the Premier League which gives them a platform to build from over the summer.
Prior to the Fulham game, Everton won three in a row. That run saw them keep three consecutive clean-sheets while also beating both Chelsea and Arsenal at Goodison Park. Manchester United will be a tough game but certainly one Silva will think his side can win.
Head-to-head
If we take the last five Premier League games that both sides have played a picture starts to emerge of just how much work Solskjaer needs to do with this United side.
The style they play has seen them create a lot more chances but the defence still shows signs of weakness that have undermined more positive approach adopted by the Norwegian.
They have created 34 chances in a five-game run which has seen them lose two and win the other three. They have scored eight goals and conceded eight.
Everton have created 26 chances in the last five games winning three and losing the other two although they have faced two of the top six in that run.
They have conceded just five, keeping three clean sheets and scored seven.
Betting tip
Manchester United are not the force they used to be which even their own manager admits while Everton have put together a strong run against some top sides. With that in mind, backing Everton to win at odds of 23/10 should see you pocket a pretty profit.
