Chile too hot to handle for Ecuador
Ecuador have a lot of work to do if they are to bounce back from an opening game thrashing against Uruguay. Can they overcome the red hot Chile peppers? Have a read of our preview here:
What now for Ecuador?
It is fair to say that the Ecuadorian hopes were not that high coming into the Copa in Brazil yet to get hammered 4-0 by Uruguay in the opening game was still a shockingly bad result.
There will have been some soul searching by Hernan Dario Gomez and his coaching team following that mauling and he will have to ring the changes coming into this one.
Not just because of the result but also because Jose Quinteros was sent off and will now be suspended.
The lack of attacking output is a huge concern and they only registered two shots in their opening game against a dogged Uruguayan backline.
It is true that Chile are not as solid at the back but they are still a far better side than Ecuador have had success against of late.
They have not won any of the last five games in 2019, losing three of them – not a good omen.
Chile heat is not a myth
Not reaching the World Cup in Russia was a pretty big blow for Chile but they showed what they are capable of when they beat a youthful Japanese side in their opening game.
It was the first time they had looked convincing for quite a while and was also only the second time they had won by more than a single goal in 22 matches.
Eric Pulgar shielded the defence well and was also able to bag himself a goal while at the other end of the pitch the attack looked dangerous.
Chile had 15 attempts on goal during the game and a brace from striker Eduardo Vargas was nothing short of what the frontman deserved. Alexis Sanchez was also in amongst the goals as Reinaldo Rueda’s game plan worked to perfection.
Star performers to shine
Chile showed in their opening game how important their key men are to the success of the side. Alexis Sanchez is an excellent player despite his struggles at Manchester United and Eric Pulgar has been solid at Bologna this season.
Gary Medel and Arturo Vidal are the other two players that give a wealth of elite experience that should see Chile through against Ecuador.
Ecuador v Chile Copa America betting tip
Given what we know about these two teams it is hard to look past Chile in this one so we are not going to even try. That is why backing Chile to win to nil at odds of 2/1 is the only way to go.
