Football the winner as Coventry host QPR
Coventry are back in the Championship but the city will not be hosting any football this season as they take on QPR at Birmingham’s St Andrews stadium. Can they brush this off for a second season in a row? Have a read of our preview here:
Mark Robins deserves the keys to the city
Coventry’s promotion last season was not a miracle but it was pretty close. Getting out of League One is no easy feat, just ask Sunderland, but doing it when you have to play all of your games away from home is even harder.
This will be the case for the Sky Blues again in 2020/21 after the club announced earlier this summer that they would be playing their home game in Birmingham for another year.
Mark Robins, therefore, deserves even more credit for the way he and his recruitment team have gone about rebuilding the club.
They have had to be smart in the transfer market again after seeing key players leave. Gustavo Hamer is one to watch and the return of Callum O’Hare is a great bit of business.
Can they score enough goals? Hard to say at this early stage, but you’d be foolish to back against Mark Robins and who’d want to do that anyway?
Warburton’s way or the highway
QPR have finally found a clear identity under the stewardship of Mark Warburton. He has a way of playing which is unmistakably his own. Is he too rigid at times? Perhaps, but it is great to watch.
The signing of Rob Dickie from Oxford is a great pick up. The ball-playing centre-back is an excellent prospect who will be a perfect fit in a Warburton team.
They have players in attack who can open things up with Paul Smyth and Ilias Chair the two to watch out for. They still need to add more up top you feel but this is a side who will hopefully settle down after years of upheaval.
Let’s hope they start moving back in the right direction going forward.
Coventry v QPR betting tip
If you watched either of these sides last season you’ll know how good they can be on their day. An entertaining match is hopefully in store on Friday, so we are backing both teams to score at odds of 1.8 with bet365 here.
