Chile looking to upset Sweden in Rennes
Chile make their World Cup debut against the very established Swedish side in Rennes on Wednesday evening. Will the minnows cause an upset or will the Scandinavians take their first strides toward the knockouts?
Chile
As mentioned above this is Chile's first appearance in the World Cup and things could not have been made any harder with title contenders Sweden and the US of A in the same group.
Chile's preparation has not been ideal either with the Latina's travelling to France on the back of a 9 game winless streak, their last victory coming way back in 2018.
Not only do the Chilean's lack experience, they lack players in the top leagues with one of the very few being PSG goalkeeper Christiane Endler, whom to be fair is a very, very good goalkeeper. But the overall lack in quality could be problematic.
Sweden
The Swede's pre-tournament preparations were not the best either but still miles improved compared to the Chilean's with the Scandinavians winning back to back games against Austria and South Korea prior to their trip to France.
Another aspect in stark contrast to their South American counterparts is the overflow of experience and quality in the team. Coach Gerhardsson has called upon 6 players with over 100 caps which is quite incredible.
Sweden's issue is that despite the fact that they are one of the worlds absolute best sides they rarely run away with the score which makes for unnecessary excitement at times.
Betting tip
Due to the total gulf in quality between the 2 sides i am opting to back a Sweden win and both teams to score NO at 61/100 with Bet365.
