Runs on display in Mumbai win
A repeat of last year’s final and the opening match of this years Dream11 Indian Premier League sees the Chennai Super Kings take on the Mumbai Indians in a match where if it goes to form, will be an easy win for the reigning champions. They might have suffered the narrowest defeat last time out, but they are playing like a team full of confidence, against a team languishing at the bottom of the table.
Sundays Super Over Carnage
It took not one but two super overs to split the sides in the game between the Mumbai Indians and Kings XI Punjab, but once it was finally over, it was the Punjab based side who took home the two points. It was just the third defeat of the tournament so far for Mumbai, who have a chance to return to the top of the table with a win in this one.
With the bat, Mumbai failed to set the world alight early doors, and were limping towards a rather pedestrian total until their final partnership of Kieron Pollard and Nathan Coulter-Nile. Pollard has proved his value all year with some lower order hitting and his form continued with 34* from just 12 balls. Coulter-Nile followed Pollard’s example, hitting 24* from 12 balls. This set Kings XI 177 to win and it was Jasprit Bumrah who did the damage taking three wickets to peg back Kings XI, who with four overs left, looked like the favourites to win the game.
Mumbai would have been frustrated that they didn’t win the first super over, needing just six to win and maybe if they sent Pollard in to open the batting in it, he might have won it with five balls to spare!
Time up for Dad's Army?
It is well documented about the age of many members of the Chennai Super Kings side are past the peak of their careers and there could be a change in the line-up for next year’s IPL. And whilst that may be the case, they still have to put up a fight and get through the rest of the competition this year. One change that will have to happen is the replacement for Dwayne Bravo who has been ruled out of the rest of the IPL through injury. He was replaced by Josh Hazlewood last time out, and it will be interesting if they go with the same replacement in this one.
It was a five wicket defeat to the leaders the Delhi Capitals last time out, in a game that went down to the wire. Whilst there will be positives to take, they need to improve drastically if they are going to get any points from this one.
Match Tip
In a game where I am expecting the Mumbai Indians to win, I think there will be a fair amount of runs scored by both sides.
I am backing there to be more than 348.5 runs scored in the match between the Chennai Super Kings and the Mumbai Indians at 1.83 with bet365.
