Fourth place shootout
Capital rivals Chelsea and Tottenham face off at Stamford Bridge on Saturday in a scrap for 4th place. The blues won the reverse fixture but Spurs have been the better team as of late making this a hard one from a betting perspective, read on for our take on it.
Chelsea
Lampard faces off against his former boss for the second time this season in what has become quite the anticipated fixture since Mourinho took over the reigns at Tottenham. Media has obviously done its job hyping up the match within the match but in all honesty, the pair probably don't give a toss about anything other than the fact that they simply want a win for their team.
Worrying form
It's been tough going for the blues following a spell of 4 games without victory and the team has at times looked worryingly deflated. Their biggest issue has however been their lack of potency in front of goal which was painfully obvious against Newcastle (1-0 defeat) as well as their most recent defeat at home to Manchester United.
VAR had a particularly bad day during the game against United but that is still not a big enough excuse given how many chances they squandered.
Lengthy injury list
Another worry is Chelsea's injury list consisting of Pulisic, Hudson-Odoi, Christensen and Kante meaning that while they have superb replacements, their bench is looking scarily bare and if something were to happen to any other offensive player things would be looking very bleak indeed.
Chelsea really need a win, or at least a draw if they are to hold onto their Champions league spot meaning that they will be feeling the pressure tenfold
Tottenham
Spurs might have suffered defeat in their midweek bout against Leipzig in the Champions League but the Lilywhites are currently on a 3 game winning streak in the league following their dramatic 2-3 win against Aston Villa this past Sunday.
Absent top-scorers
But the victory may have costed more than it was worth with Son suffering an elbow injury requiring a somewhat lengthy layoff leaving a gaping hole in Tottenham's attack. The fact that both Kane and Son are out injured is obviously hugely problematic but also painstakingly obvious due to the fact that they basically lose 90% of their goalscoring ability with them.
It is near impossible for anyone that saw the game against Leipzig to realise how much the South Korean was missed which begs the question, does Mourinho have a solution for it?
Dutch solution?
New signing Bergwijn has however been impressive and his pace might just be their saving grace on the counter due to Mourinho's habit of playing defensively in big games.
Spurs know this is an important one if they are to qualify for next years Champions League meaning that they will be feeling the pressure come Saturday but if the pressure will result in something good or bad is still yet to be seen.
Betting tip
Chelsea's home record and Tottenham's away record are both average at best making it a hard game to call but both teams have conceded quite a few goals which is why i will be backing Over 2.5 goals at 77/100 with Betway.
