Foxes face tough trip to South Coast
Brighton and Hove Albion have the chance to reach the summit of the Premier League with a victory over Leicester City at the American Express Community Stadium on Sunday. Leicester have been a fresh air in the English top-flight with back to back fifth placed finishes and an FA Cup triumph in the last two seasons but they have not started this season very encouragingly. In looking to turn their excellent underlying process into results this season the Seagulls have made a great start, with three wins and one loss from their opening quartet they are in a strong position to kick on this term. It never felt like Brighton would be relegated last season but despite some of the wonderful football they played, Graham Potter’s men were sat precariously above the bottom three for the majority of the campaign.
Background
Marc Cucurella looks a smart signing for the Seagulls, Solly March was the only left wing back at the club last season and even he used to play in a more advanced role. Therefore, the Spaniard is a very welcome addition from Getafe where he has gained some good experience in La Liga to take into the Premier League.
The Foxes were in Europa League action on Thursday, playing their part in an entertaining 2-2 draw with Napoli, which means that Brendan Rodgers is likely to rotate again before their trip to the South Coast.
The bookmakers are finding it tough to call this matchup, putting a fairly hefty price on either side to get the win. So we are in a nice position to find value while keeping more than one outcome onside. Leandro Trossard was the match winner last time out against Brentford, such that has been the case frequently since the Belgian’s arrival on English soil. Now a key player under Potter it feels like Trossard is one consistent season away from attracting interest for clubs competitive in European football.
It is defensively where the concerns are for Leicester, Caglar Soyuncu has had a difficult few months and the injury to Wesley Fofana has left the Foxes a little light for cover in certain areas. That is the main standout figure in terms of both teams’ expected goals number, the visitors have the second worst defensive process in the division, overperforming to concede just six goals from chances equating to 8.9.
Brighton are rightful narrow favourites for me and should be able to breach the leaky Foxes backline.
