Two fiery attacking sides fight it out in last 16
The Champions League last 16 gets underway on Tuesday with two massive encounters. My focus is on Borussia Dortmund versus Paris Saint-Germain to be a more attacking and entertaining encounter than the turgid perseverance and perhaps cagey affair that will ensue when Atletico Madrid host Liverpoolat the same time. These two have truly frightening attacking contingents and with the indifferent form of their backlines, one side could run riot and make the second leg equation extremely difficult for their opponent.
Recent form
Both teams have got on the scoresheet in six of PSG’s last eight last 16 Champions League matches. They are also unbeaten in their last six away trips in the competition. It was not ideal preparation for the visitors on Saturday, a concerning despite the comeback, 4-4 draw with Amiens.
The relegation scrappers were 3-0 up before Ander Herrera’s finish on the stroke of half time gave the reigning champions momentum. They raced into a 4-1 lead thanks to two set piece headers from Nianzou Kouassi and a close-range strike from Mauro Icardi. However, they were caught out with a sucker punch on the break, Sehrou Guirassy rescuing a point for the hosts with his second of the game.
Who has the stronger attack?
Attack is the strongest facet for both teams, and with away goals being so valuable, it could be the best form of defence for the Parisians on Tuesday evening. The wealth of talent at Lucien Favre and the returning Thomas Tuchel’s disposal is mouth-watering. BVB’s younger trio of Erling Braut Haland, Julian Brandt and Jadon Sancho have hit the back of the net a combined total of 60 times in 2019/20 with PSG’s three of Kylian Mbappe, Mauro Icardi and Angel Di Maria have scored 55 goals between them.
The visitors are narrow favourites to take an advantage back to the Parc des Princes, but you cannot underestimate the impact the Yellow Wall and attacking flair Dortmund obtain may have on the night. Needing to make the most of this opportunity for them to stand a chance in the French capital. Recent outings have displayed Dortmund’s attacking potential brilliantly, their 4-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt on Friday evening meant they had scored 37 goals in their last 10, an average of 3.7 per game.
Despite the odds in their favour and away form in this competition, this is going to be tough for PSG and with their soft centre at times a draw would be a good outcome for them.

Haland's heroics once again saw Dortmund to victory, 2-1 it finished, a sumptuous left footed drive from the Norwegian gave Lucien Favre's men the advantage to take to the Parc des Princes.
