Bayern to continue stroll towards the title
Bayern Munich are edging ever closer to yet another domestic title as they prepare to take on Eintracht Frankfurt in Saturday’s late kick-off. Will it be a stroll in the park or is there a sting in the tail? Have a read of our preview here:
Bayern dominating domestic football
It gets a bit tiresome to see the same team win a division year on year. The vibrations of Leicester City’s remarkable title triumph were felt so intently for the very reason that no one expected it.
Bayern restarted their title challenge in predictable fashion, beating Union Berlin 2-0. It wasn’t their best performance, but they took their chances and kept anther clean-sheet to move four points clear of Borussia Dortmund, who trashed rivals Schalke the day before.
Robert Lewandowski continued his goal-scoring bonanza by grabbing their first from the spot to net him goal number 26 in just 24 league games.
Benjamin Pavard grabbed the second late on to seal the win and keep Bayern very much in the driving seat for another domestic title.
If Eintracht Frankfurt were a food…
You will be expecting some sort of German sausage analogy here no doubt but actually the only food that comes to mind with Frankfurt is streaky bacon.
This is a side that have been on good runs and bad runs all season without ever being able to find the kind of consistency they need to sit at the table with the big boys.
Currently, they are on a dreadful run of form, now without a win since February 07 having lost each of the last four games.
The defeat last weekend to Borussia Monchengladbach summed up the struggles they have had against the better sides this season.
Yet it is not only the Bundesliga top dogs that have been troublesome to Adi Hutter’s side. They have also lost to some of the teams you’d expect them to beat such as Paderborn and Augsburg.
It has left Frankfurt only five points above the relegation zone and very much looking over their shoulder.
However, they did famously smash Bayern Munich 5-1 in the reverse fixture back in November – boy does that seem like a long time ago – and cannot be completely written off.
Hard to see them getting anywhere near that result again but there still could be plenty of goals in this one.
