Immense points up for grabs at Villa Park
Aston Villa continue their quest in securing a top-flight contract for the 2020/21 edition of the English Premier League whilst visitors Wolverhampton are moving ever closer to their Champions League dream after racking up impressive performance after impressive performance. Important points are up for grabs but the question is, who will lay claim to them?
Aston Villa
The Villains put up a valiant fight away at Newcastle during the last round and travelled home with a well deserved point after a 83rd minute Elmohamady equaliser.
Better than they seem
Dean Smith's men have been putting in good displays on a regular basis for a while now but have had a few major heartbreaks, a 94th minute 3-2 defeat Tottenham being the perfect example. Partly to blame for a few of their mishaps along the way was their overly lengthy injury list, probably the leagues lengthiest prior to lockdown. But times are a changing and the mandatory break gave a lot of the clubs players exactly what they needed. A lengthy hiatus.
In their own hands
Aston Villa currently occupy a slightly depressing 19th place but find themselves a mere 4 goals behind West Ham and a ticket to the Prem's next season. Whats more is that Watford are only a point and 5 goals ahead meaning the Villains very much have everything in their own hands.
Goalscoring machines
An interesting statistic that showcases why Aston Villa stand a better chance than others at staying in the top flight is the fact that they have managed to score 36 goals, 11th most in the league. The caveat is that they have conceded 59 of them which happens to be a league worst. We do however know that the hard(er) part is the scoring bit meaning that if they manage to stem the bleeding, if only marginally, results will no doubt improve.
Wolverhampton Wanderers F.C.
Wolves have had an excellent start to life following the mandatory lockdown solidly winning both their games. The victories might have come against a couple of the worst performing teams in the league but they did their job and came home with 6 out of 6 points, not much else needs to be said about it.
Hot on their rivals heels
Nuno Espírito Santos's men find themselves behind 5th placed Manchester United only by goal difference meaning that they are only 7 goals away from a maiden Champions League featuring, given of course Manchester City's ban is upheld during their ruling sometime in the beginning of July.
Going strong
Wolverhampton are now unbeaten in 7 straight games, of which 4 ended in victory. What's more impressive is the fact that they scored 9 and conceded only 2(!) with both goals coming against Spurs in their 2-3 victory, that means Wolves have kept a clean sheet in 6 of their last 7 games which deserves heaps of praise. Other notable games within that time period include draws against Leicester and Manchester United.
As i mentioned in this tip(a winner might i add) about their previous game Wolverhampton Wanderers vs. Bournemouth, Wolves have the quality and depth needed to mount a top 5 challenge, which, as of this moment, means a spot in next years Champions League. Check the linked tip out if you are interested in seeing some goalscoring stats along with some general information about their form etc.
Betting tip
Aston Villa have seen 67% of their home games end with both teams scoring whilst Wolves have fittingly seen 67% of all away games end with both teams scoring which is why i will simply be backing Both teams to score at 1.95 with Bet365.
