Arteta progress to be tested against Liverpool
Arsenal host newly-crown Premier League champions Liverpool on Wednesday with the Gunners search for positives in what has been a dreadful campaign. Will there be one last hurrah for the Gunners? Have a read of our preview here:
Time to look forward for the Gunners
There are not a lot of positives to take from this season if you are an Arsenal fan. Perhaps the consolation prize has been the form of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, but that will be little comfort for the Arsenal hardcore.
For a club of their stature, it has been a case of far too poor for far too long and Unai Emery’s ill-fated reign has not helped take the club forward.
Mikel Arteta, on the other hand, is starting to make some progress in the hot seat but he needs the support from the board room and, frankly, from the bank. There are too many holes in this squad to plug in just one transfer window but you get the feeling Arsenal will be unlikely to address even the basic issues over the summer.
It has been the same old story for the last few years as Arsenal continue to struggle to match the pulling power and spending mite of their rivals.
It is, for this reason, they have been falling away from the top four and now will be lucky to qualify for the Europa League next season.
Recent form is something to take encouragement from. Heading into the game against bitter rivals Tottenham, the Gunners have put together an unbeaten run stretching back four games, not great but good for the current campaign.
Liverpool are now at the level Arsenal enjoyed during the early noughties, but the Gunners will want to remind them it’s not always been this easy.
Champions at last
Well, it only took 30 years, but Liverpool have finally won the Premier League title they were so desperately looking for.
Now they have to maintain this level and build another dynasty like those of years gone by.
Not easy, but the foundations Jurgen Klopp has laid with the acquisition of players in their prime and some still yet to reach their full potential gives them a great chance of maintaining this season’s level for at least a couple more years.
For now though, it is a case of just take in the moment and enjoy the rest of the season.
Arsenal v Liverpool betting tip
With a lot of attacking talent on show and Liverpool already crowned as champions, this one should be free-flowing and, hopefully, end to end. For this reason, we are backing both teams to score at odds of 1.55 with Betway here.
