Cornet-less Burnley easy pickings for Gunners
Arsenal are overwhelming favourites to beat Burnley at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday in looking to put the Premier League’s rock bottom club to the sword.
The Gunners successfully had the North London derby postponed last weekend but they have fallen behind Tottenham Hotspur in the table after Antonio Conte’s men’s dramatic midweek win at Leicester City.
Mikel Arteta’s men need to bounce back and avoid slipping into an all too familiar, eighth, ninth or tenth position.
Burnley have not played in the league since 2nd January and they have only won one game in the league all season.
Arsenal are too short to get involved outright but we can add in a second selection to find value in a pro-Gunners play.
Process
Arsenal have scored 33 from 33.3 expected goals (xG) this season, at an average of 1.67 xGF per game, comfortably their strength as a side.
In the youthful exuberance of Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith Rowe, Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli, they should have enough to cause Burnley a lot of problems over extended periods of the match.
The Clarets have underperformed to score 16 from 19.9 xGF but have overperformed slightly to concede 27 from 29.2 xGA.
Their strengths lie in their defensive contingent but with a weakened attacking one, it may be tough for Burnley to get any relief.
Maxwel Cornet is at the Africa Cup of Nations with Ivory Coast and in that the Clarets’ creativity and imagination in the final third is significantly diminished.
Goals?
It depends on whether Arsenal take their foot off the gas, it could be a comfortable win to firmly have the Gunners looking back up the league table.
- Arsenal have scored in eight of ten.
- Arsenal have conceded in six of ten.
- Arsenal have seen both teams score in five of ten.
- Arsenal have seen over 2.5 goals in seven of ten.
- Burnley have scored in six of ten.
- Burnley have conceded in eight of ten.
- Burnley have seen both teams score in six of ten.
- Burnley have seen over 2.5 goals in five of ten.
Initially this looked like a (-1) Asian Handicap bet but the odds are still very short.
Therefore, another angle appeals that gets a comfortable Arsenal win onside at a slightly more enticing price.
